The perils of being a kindergartner are vast. There are daily fashion options to consider, lessons to learn, playground bullies to deal with, and of course the sensitive issue of being super-popular amongst ones peers. But, our darling Aubrey has a new challenge to contend with: Boys. Well, not exactly boys as a species, per say, since they seem to be harmless enough. It's the boys that like to kiss without warning that she is having to deal with. Now, I've met the offending little kisser, and I can assure all of you... he's a Doll! Blue eyes, blond hair, and dimples to boot. However, boys that kiss are apparently infected with all sorts of disgusting male diseases. Cooties, for instance, or the ever-present overall ick factor. Not to mention... Say the name of this treacherous kisser in the presence of my favorite kindergartener and a fantastic red blush spreads all over her face. It must be tremendously upsetting.
Talia had a similar problem when she was in kindergarten. She had a crush on a little boy in our neighborhood, and after letting her watch the movie, "Peter Pan" she planted a serious smooch on the poor kid the next day. She made up for it the following year on the bus when she somehow gave the boy a nose bleed. As far as I know, they are still great friends to this day despite both nosebleeds and kisses.
Aside from worrying about kissing when the girls turn 16, kindergarten crushes are one of the funnest things about being a mother. I can't wait to see who Emi and Ryker fall for!
